Book (Incantartum Dragonomicon) Breakdown by Dandoombuggy Book (Incantartum Dragonomicon) Breakdown by Dandoombuggy
Breakdown of the slightly pretentiously labeled 'Incantartum Dragonomicon.' Quoting my friend, "Warhammery stuff is fun to name!"

This is another prop from my Dragon/Cultist lair environment.
I've aimed for an amalgamation of Celtic, Arabic and even some Aztec patterns, which have come together quite nicely (I wanted clear influences, an unmistakable mix of cultures but not so much that the book was grounded in reality.)
The awesome design on the front and back of the book is by Josef Treweeks, so much thanks to him!

Modeled in Maya and Zbrush. Textured in Photoshop.

Maps baked using Xnormal.

Rendered using Marmoset Toolbag.

Hey do you mind a little question? How did you do the few pages that are bigger than the book itself? Because I can't see them in the topology and clearly are not part od the normal map. So, are they some extra polys that aren't part of the book mesh?

Those pages are just flat planes I added at the end using the same texture as the inside of the book. So the bottom right hand side of the texture sheet. Nothing fancy :)

A lot of artists don't really mention their workflow. This is very helpful, thanks. Oh, and awesome model/sculpt by the way.
